history

In the 1990s, the Gishalde was converted into a mining zone. After gravel mining and replenishment, the site was originally intended to be returned to the agricultural zone. The gravel pit in the Gishalde was instead zoned into the “Gishalde Sports Zone” in 2006, after eight years of planning and approval procedures, by the Schlatt TG community at the community assembly ; cantonally, it is a “Zone for special sports facilities”. This zone in the Gishalde has an area of 22,291 m³. The facility is used for motocross and mountain biking. This sports zone is the first of its kind in Switzerland. Various offices in the canton of Thurgau and environmental associations contributed to the design of the site.

In 2016, an adaptation of the design plan was requested, which, among other things, should change the opening times. A planning report for the municipality of Schlatt was drawn up on these changes.

The route is used in particular for motocross training and for training purposes of the MX Academy by Christoph Möckli . It can be found in the Thurgau registers of sports facilities of supraregional and cantonal importance.
