Gitti Vasicek

Gitti Vasicek (also Brigitte Vasicek ; born June 15, 1959 in Vienna ) is an Austrian artist , activist and feminist .

Life

After completing a tapestry apprenticeship, Gitti Vasicek studied from 1984 to 1990 at the University of Art and Industrial Design in Linz in the master class for visual design with Laurids Ortner . From 1987 to 1993 she worked at Ars Electronica as production manager. She then worked for the Festival of Regions as a curator in the field of visual arts and in festival organization. From 1993 to 2005 Vasicek was a member of the board of the Stadtwerkstatt Linz. In 2005 she completed her habilitation at the Art University Linz with the work meatspace , a virtual reality job project - on the subject of equal opportunities at work. Since then, Vasicek has been professor for time-based media at the Art University Linz. The artist curates and initiates exhibitions and festivals. Since 2013 she has been jointly responsible for the format development of the women's political initiative Feminism and Riot , which was awarded the City of Linz Women's Prize in 2014. In 2018 Vasicek was awarded the Käthe Leichter Prize for women's studies, gender research and equality in the world of work.

Gitti Vasicek lives and works in Linz. She is the mother of three children.
