Giuseppe De Luca (singer)
Giuseppe De Luca (born December 25, 1876 in Rome , † August 26, 1950 in New York ) was an Italian opera singer ( baritone ) and singing teacher .
Life
Giuseppe De Luca was born in Rome in 1876 and made his debut in 1897 as Valentin in Faust by Charles Gounod in the theater of Piacenza . After his engagement in Piacenza he was committed to the Scala and the Teatro Lirico in Milan , where he performed as Gleby in the world premiere of the opera Siberiawas seen. In the years 1907 to 1911 several guest performances at the Convent Garden Opera in London followed.
In 1915 Giuseppe De Luca was engaged at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, with whom he stayed until his stage farewell in 1946 . Here he sang the title role in the first performance of Giacomo Puccini's Gianni Schicchi in 1918 . He then worked as a singing teacher, one of his students was Leonard Warren .
Giuseppe De Lucas' career lasted nearly five decades. His repertoire included more than 100 operatic roles, including the entire Verdi and Puccini repertoire.
Giuseppe De Luca died in New York in 1950. He was buried in Rome at his request.
