Giuseppe Giovanni Battista Franzoni

Giuseppe Giovanni Battista Franzoni (born March 12, 1758 in Cevio ; † September 3, 1817 in Locarno ) was governor of the bailiwick of Maggia Valley , politician and president of the Ticino Court of Appeal .

Life

He was the son of Giovanni Giacomo Franzoni from Locarno and Teresa Castagna from Lugano . He studied in Lyon and Strasbourg , where he graduated from the military academy in 1775 as first lieutenant of the Dragoons . In 1775 he returned to Cevio to manage the estates. From 1778 to 1780, he was governor of the bailiwick Maggiatal.

In 1780 he began studying law and notary and moved to Locarno in 1781. In 1798 he became Vice Prefect of Locarno and then Governor of the Maggia Valley. 1800–1802 he was prefect of the canton of Lugano , then Swiss senator and president of the cantonal assembly .

Franzoni was a member of the commission for a new constitution of the cantonal court and president of the administrative court. From 1803 to 1815 he was Ticino Grand Council (President 1806–1807, 1809, 1811–1812), 1805–1815 in the Small Council (President 1814) and in 1816 President of the Ticino Court of Appeal. As a staunch Republican , he advocated the annexation of the canton of Ticino to Switzerland .
