You have to be lucky was a TV show in the GDR . It was first broadcast in 1985 on the first GDR television program . It is one of the few GDR productions that were not canceled after reunification and were broadcast on Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk until 1997 . The program was first hosted by Bernd Martin, his successor Wolfgang Lippert attracted a lot of attention with the show and laid the foundation for his television career in West Germany as well . Carmen Nebel acted as an outside reporter. In addition to the actual games, the show was accompanied by several, mostly musical, show acts.

The concept was developed by Evelin Matt. Three celebrities, who were to appear as guests in the following programs, introduced themselves anonymously on the program. The audience should use their description to find out their true identity. The show partners were cast for the respective celebrities from the correct senders. Three candidates, each supported by the celebrity they guessed, competed in the show. In five different action and communication games, the team members tried to get to know each other better and to collect as many points as possible. In the finale of the show, in which the points were set in full, each of the candidates had to choose one of three people presented who had something in common with the celebrity of their own team. The team with the most total points won. The main prize in the beginning was a Trabant , later a Lada or VW .

Prominent play partners included Helga Piur , Henry Maske , Herbert Köfer , Alfred Biolek , Kurt Felix , Katarina Witt , Uwe Ochsenknecht , Nena , Hape Kerkeling and Roland Kaiser .
