Bald Kogel

The Glatzete Kogel is 1594  m above sea level. A. high summit of the Mürzsteg Alps on the border between Lower Austria and Styria .

Surname

Bald [ r ] t is the Austrian adjective for bald : 'to be bald, to be bald'. Therefore, this part of the name - like High or Large in mountain names - is correctly inflected ("on the Glatzeten Kogel"). Today the name no longer fits, the summit is forested.

geography

The summit is located between Schwarzau in the mountains in the upper Lower Austria Schwarzatal and Frein an der Mürz the top Styrian Mürztal . It is a western secondary peak in the range of the Sonnleitstein  ( 1639  m above sea level ), which stretches south of the Gippel and north of the Schneealpe from west to east. It is about 2 kilometers to the Großer Sonnleitstein, with an unnamed altitude ( 1519  m above sea level , above the Amaiswies) in between. To the west the ridge drops over the Grassgrabenhöhe ( 1474  m above sea level ) to Steinalpl an der Kalten Mürz . To the south-east are the two cross saddles  (1330 and 1363  m above sea level ), which connect the Mürz Valley with the Naßwald Valley . There the Ameiswiesbach goes to the Kalten Mürz. To the north is the saddle of the Waldeben , also a double pass with the Hüttenkogel hill ( 1401  m ) in between. From this saddle the Graßgrabenbach go to the Kalten Mürz, and the Waldebengraben eastwards to the Schwarzriegelbach , which runs to the Nassbach near Naßwald in the lower Naßwaldtal .

The summit is gentle and wooded, but breaks off steeply to the northwest in the grass moat wall.

The summit belongs to Altenberg an der Rax , part of the municipality of Neuberg an der Mürz .

  3. The ÖK50 as well as the area directory (HZB) do not lead the stream; the Styrian water book only gives Untitled Flume, No. 30635, RID 625441 ( Digitaler Atlas Steiermark online: Maps Waters & Water Information , Layer Waters: Waters Network , accessed March 8, 2018).
  4. As of 2018, the ÖK is the state border here (community Schwarzau im Gebirge); However, the two state GIS (Lower Austria Atlas, Digitaler Atlas Steiermark) give the border just under 200 m to the east, from Kreuzsattel to Waldeben, with a short section on the ridge.
