The Kreuzsattel lies between the uppermost Mürz valley in the west and the rearmost Naßbachtal , a side valley of the Lower Austrian Schwarza valley in the east. The saddle is northeast of the Schneealpe, at the end of the ridge that stretches northwards from the Amaißbichl  ( 1828  m above sea level ) over the Eisenkogel  ( 1513  m above sea level ). To the north lies the west ridge of the Sonnleitstein , the main summit of the Sonnleitstein group, with the Glatzeten Kogel  ( 1594  m above sea level ) north of the Kreuzsattel

The valley of the Amaiswiesbach runs westwards to the Kalten Mürz , which comes from the Schneealpstock and the Eisenkogel, and joins the Silent Mürz zur Mürz near Neuwald . One of the southern source brooks of the Wasseralmbach rises to the east and then runs over the Wasseralm and as a Nassbach near Naßwald to the Schwarza.

In the middle of the Kalte Mürz - Nassbach valley line lies a small, almost 1400  m high, wooded hill, and on the other side of it another, 1330  m above sea level. A. high saddle, about 300 meters north of the Kreuzsattels. This is called Freinerboden or (northern) Kreuzsattel . It belongs to the high valley of the Amaiswies, where the real origin of the Wasseralmbach / Nassbach lies.

Both saddles form the Lower Austria-Styrian state border and the border between the communities of Schwarzau im Gebirge and Neuberg an der Mürz , where they belong to the cadastral community of Altenberg an der Rax . They also form the watershed between Leitha and Mur , two tributaries of the Danube.

Development

A hiking trail leads over the pass, using the northern of the two saddles, so that the one is the better known. The path bridges the short section between the forest roads that come up from the valley on both sides.
