Glauburgstrasse between Oeder Weg and Eckenheimer Landstrasse

Glauburgstrasse runs in a west-east direction between Oeder Weg and Friedberger Landstrasse . At its westernmost point, it encounters the historical enclosure of the Holzhausen Park, which is still evidenced by a green island (Paul Hindemith enclosure) and the historic entrance gate of the park. At this point, the park was reduced by around 200 meters in favor of building. The eastern extension of Glauburgstrasse is Rohrbachstrasse (on the other side of Friedberger Landstrasse).

Surname

The name is derived - like a number of other street names in Nordend - from a Frankfurt patrician family , the Glauburg family . This patrician family also owned the moated castle in Ossenau, which later bore the names Bornburg and Günthersburg . The extension of Glauburgstrasse, Rohrbachstrasse, begins at today 's Günthersburgpark .

Public transport

The most important crossing street is the Eckenheimer Landstraße , in which - in this part above ground - the U5 runs. A stop in the crossing area is named after Glauburgstraße. From here to Rohrbachstraße - i.e. in its eastern part - there is also a tram route in Glauburgstraße that connects the tracks of the U5 with those of tram lines 12 and 18. Scheduled traffic no longer takes place here. This existed until May 29, 1992 on tram lines 5 and 25 and until the opening of the East Depot in 2003, when individual trips to park vehicles on tram line 12 in the Eckenheim depot ran here as scheduled.

meaning

Explora Museum on Glauburgplatz
Glauburg School

In the middle of the eastern arm of the street is the Glauburgplatz , a green, only marginally designed area with a children's playground, which is rather limited than included by the street. The Explora , a private "museum for science and technology" in a former air raid shelter from the Second World War, which exhibits three-dimensional images using various techniques, was located on Glauburgplatz until November 30, 2016 .

To the south of Glauburgplatz is the Glauburg School , the branch of the Berta Jourdan Vocational School .

The Stalburg Theater, founded by Michi Herl , is located at Glauburgstrasse 80. This is where the Stalburger Oede , a medieval moated castle within the Frankfurter Landwehr, was located . The theater offers regular theater and music events.
