The Stalburg Theater is a theater founded in the late 1990s by journalist Michael Herl in the Nordend district of Frankfurt .

history

There is evidence of a building at the current location as early as 1415. At the end of the 15th century it came into the possession of the then wealthiest Frankfurt patrician, Claus Stalburg , after whom it has since been known as the Stalburger Oede due to its property as a remote country residence . The building was redesigned in Baroque style in the early 18th century and included in the construction of the Zur Stalburg cider tavern , which opened in 1879.

Since then, almost nothing has changed in the building; mainly between 1900 and the First World War, a few extensions were added, including a dance hall to the east of the main building . In addition to festivities, it also served as a meeting place for men's choral societies , of which only one has now remained.

In November 1998, the Stalburg Theater was brought into being by journalist Michael Herl in the dance hall, which was therefore increasingly no longer in use . The economic sponsor is a non-profit association .

program

The program consists mainly of in-house productions, which make up around 80 percent of the program. They are mostly staged by the house director Manfred Roth . The house has had its own ensemble since 2001: the Ensemble Stalburg Theater . There are also guest performances by nationwide known artists such as the U-Bahn-Kontrollöre in frozen women's clothes , Frank Wolff , Sabine Fischmann , FW Bernstein , Pit Knorr , Jo van Nelsen , Ingrid El Sigai , Mathias Tretter , Claus von Wagner and Matthias Scheuring .

Every summer the Stalburg Theater organizes the Stalburg Theater open air ( Stoffel ), a four-week open-air event in Günthersburg Park with two daily programs with free admission.

On the occasion of the death of the pianist and singer Anne Bärenz (1950–2005), who was connected to the theater, the Stalburg Theater founded the CD label Stalburg Theater Tonträgererei in May 2006 .
