The Papageno Musiktheater is a small music theater in Frankfurt am Main . It is located on Zeppelinallee next to the Frankfurt Palmengarten .

history

The theater was founded in 1997 by Hans-Dieter Maienschein and his wife Renate. The first performances took place in the Siesmayer Hall in the Society House of the Palmengarten. Here Maienschein appeared for the first time in 1998 as Papageno in the Little Magic Flute , which he himself staged , and the main character of the play became the eponym for the music theater. In March 1999, the Theater im Palmengarten was given a permanent venue in a large circus tent . The tent collapsed in 2002 under heavy rain, so that there was no longer a venue. With financial support from the Dietmar Hopp Foundation , a steel arch construction, covered with a green, opaque membrane, was erected on the same site and has been used by the music theater since January 2003. The auditorium is fully air-conditioned and has 199 seats.

Performances

The Papageno Musiktheater offers musical interpretations of works such as Jim Knopf and Lukas der Lokomotivführer , Pippi Longstocking and Räuber Hotzenplotz for children as well as musical , opera and operetta performances such as The Gypsy Baron by Johann Strauss for an adult audience .
