The comedy is a private boulevard theater in the city of Frankfurt am Main .

history

On September 26, 1950, Helmut Kollek opened the "Theater am Roßmarkt" with 132 seats in the half-bombed house above the Amelang bookshop. At opening was The Forgotten of Ernst Nebhut shown that of his friend Just Scheu was lifted from the stage baptism. In his review of the premiere, Richard Kirn admired the courage to place “this piece full of problems” at the beginning of a new “era”. But from then on Kollek's program not only satisfied the audience's pent-up demand for world literary material, but also the audience's desire for cheerfulness; for example with the performance of the comedy Ingeborg by Curt Götz, which was sold out every evening. Kollek played Theophanes von Theo Lingen and Benedettis Zwei Dozen Rosen with Christl Pfeil and Lorenz Impekhoven .

When the house fell victim to straightening the city planners, the theater moved to the opposite side of the street. On December 18, 1953, the curtain rose on Jacques Deval's beloved shadow in the house at 11 Rossmarkt . On the stage stood u. a. Petra Peters , Irene von Meyendorff and Karl Lieffen, who has returned from England and is performing in Germany for the first time .

move

The lease in the house on Rossmarkt 11 ended in 1963. Kollek moved to Neue Mainzer Straße 18, in the immediate vicinity of the Städtische Bühnen , and was now called “ Die Komödie ”. On December 20, 1963, the curtain of comedy rose for the first time for Samson Raphaelson's “Magic of Youth”. Kollek brought popular stars into his home, including Paul Dahlke , Gisela Uhlen , Lis Verhoeven and Erik Ode . The star of many Frankfurt artists such as Anneliese Teluren , Lotte Barthel and Wolfgang Bieger rose here.

In 1972 the then 28-year-old Claus Helmer entered comedy. At first he was jointly responsible alongside Helmut Kollek, and since 1975 as sole director.

New beginning

In 1998 the house at Neue Mainzer Straße 18 was demolished for structural reasons, the comedy stopped its performance in order to resume it after 16 months of construction in the same place in a modern, larger house. The new comedy found its way into more than 1000 square meters and gave its opening performance on October 7, 1999 with “ Pension Schöller ”. Also on board were Helmut Oeser , Manfred Boehm , Dieter Schaad and Dagmar Hessenland .
