Glen Washington (actually: Glenroy Washington ; * in Clarendon, Clarendon Parish , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican reggae artist.

Life

Washington was born as Glenroy Washington under humble circumstances. He began his artistic career in the early 1970s as the lead singer for the group Names and Faces . He later became the lead singer of Group 35 Incorporated . Here he learned to play the drums under the guidance of Joseph Hill . After Joseph Hill left the group, he filled in the void and became the singing drummer.

In 1978 Glen Washington produced his first hit, Rockers Not Crackers, for the Joe Gibbs Record Label, and his single Kindness For Weakness in 1998 was another chart success . His musical career is reminiscent of Boris Gardiner , who died after 25 years in the music industry golden single I Wanna Wake Up With You .

During the entire time between his first and the subsequent gold hit in 1998, Glen Washington sporadically recorded a few solo titles and was mainly active as a full-time drummer in various bands, including The Avengers , The Titans and Happiness Unlimited . He went to the US with Happiness Unlimited and worked with Stevie Wonder . With the other bands in which he played drums, he appeared with Leroy Sibbles , Shinehead , Junior Reid , Gregory Isaacs , Sister Carol and The Meditations , among others . Only in 1997 did Glen Washington pursue his solo career. He produced the album Brother to Brother at Studio One , which consisted mostly of individual tracks.

Glen Washington is often compared to Beres Hammond as both have deep, flattering voices. When asked about the comparison, Glen Washington stated, "Beres is one of my favorite entertainers, and I find it a compliment to be compared to him." With the release of over 40 singles and eleven albums in four years, Glen Washington has made a name for himself not only as a singer, but also as a songwriter, because his titles are all written by himself.

After having already completed concerts as a drummer, he repeated them later as a singer and songwriter.
