The first German Glockenwanderweg is an approximately 22 km long circular hiking trail in the Saxon Erzgebirgskreis . It was inaugurated on April 18, 2015. The Glockenwanderweg leads through the villages of Deutschneudorf , Brüderwiese , Deutscheinsiedel , Seiffen , Oberseiffenbach , Oberlochmühle and Deutschkatharinenberg . The name of the hiking trail is derived from the 16 stations on the trail, which leads past various bells . The properties that the bells once and now are intended to have are different. The hikers encountered along the trail prayer, Eternity and Taufglocken and the school, fire, hours, porcelain, art and Häuer bell. For this purpose, some bells were hung on the side of the path in individual and specially built bell stalls.
The reason for the creation of the bell hiking trail was the question of what should happen to the old bells of the Deutschneudorfer church after a new bell ring was installed there in 2012. The old cast steel bells were cast in Bochum in 1869 . It was decided to hang the bells on the edge of a hiking trail in newly erected belfry and to create a circular trail with several stations. Three bells were designed by design students at the TU Dresden . All of the bells that have been erected are related to the history of the Saxon border region of the Erzgebirge. The bell hiking trail with its 16 stations today and 4 additional information boards also addresses the mining of copper and tin in the region, which are essential components of bronze bells.
