Glogau song book

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Glogau song book , formerly also known as the Berlin song book , is a collection of 292 sacred and secular vocal and instrumental pieces from the late Gothic period from Silesia from around 1480 . The Lower Silesian town of Glogau is located approx. 100 km northwest of Breslau on the Oder. It is considered to be the oldest known part book set from Central Europe , which has been handed down in three part books ( discantus , tenor , contratenor ). A smaller part of it has German titles and partly also lyrics. It is a utility collection for making music together, which was used for entertainment by a small monastic community.

The Glogau songbook is now part of the Berlinka collection in the holdings of the Biblioteka Jagiellońska in Krakow .
