Eugene Glombig
Eugen Glombig (born January 23, 1924 in Hamburg ; † October 31, 2004 in Kiel ) was a German politician ( SPD ).
From 1983 to 1987 he was chairman of the Committee on Labor and Social Affairs of the German Bundestag.
Life and work
Eugen Glombig grew up in simple circumstances. His father was a dock worker who struggled to support the family with six children. At the age of two, Eugen Glombig fell ill with spinal polio. He remained disabled and walked hard on two sticks all his life. Despite the difficulties, he obtained secondary school leaving certificate - unusual for the disabled at the time. From 1940 to 1942 he completed an apprenticeship with a substitute fund . He was then a senior executive there until 1945 . After the Second World War , he first worked at the registration office in Hamburg and was then employed by the British military government in the Hanseatic city in 1947/48 . From 1948 to 1969 he worked as a specialist in social law at the federal headquarters of the Reich Association of War Victims, Disabled People, Social Pensioners and Survivors .
His social background was likely to have shaped his later political work.
Political party
Glombig joined the SPD in 1949. At times he was deputy chairman of the Hamburg-Mitte district association .
MP
Glombig was a member of the Hamburg citizenship from 1957 until the resignation on January 29, 1962 .
On January 25, 1962, he replaced the resigned MP Helmut Schmidt in the German Bundestag and was then a member of the German Bundestag until 1980 . In 1979, the publicist Freimut Duve ran within the party for the position as direct candidate for the next Bundestag against the social expert and won by one vote. Glombig was able to move into the Bundestag again on December 18, 1980, despite his poor position on the list as a replacement for Alfons Pawelczyk . From 1972 to 1983 he was chairman of working group IV social policy of the SPD parliamentary group and from 1983 to 1987 chairman of the parliamentary committee for labor and social order.
Eugen Glombig entered the Bundestag in 1962 and 1980 via the Hamburg state list , in 1983 as a directly elected member of the Hamburg-Wandsbek constituency and otherwise always as a directly elected member of the Hamburg-Mitte constituency .
