Gloria D. Miklowitz

Gloria D. Miklowitz (born May 18, 1927 in New York , † January 20, 2015 in Pasadena ) was an American children's and youth author .

Life

Miklowitz has published over 60 novels and non-fiction books so far (as of 2005). Her books have received numerous American and international awards, including the Emmy for " Best Children's Special ". In addition, three of her novels were filmed.

After graduating from the University of Michigan , she married Professor Julius Miklowitz in 1948 and moved to California where she began writing. She first wrote scripts for documentaries on missiles and torpedoes for the US Navy . After the birth of her second son, she decided to become a children's book author and eventually quit her job. As her sons got older, she began to write youth literature.

She last lived as a widow in La Canada , California. Two of her three sons are professors of philosophy and psychology, respectively .
