The Norwegian cudweed ( Gnaphalium norvegicum ) is a plant from the family of the daisy family (Asteraceae).

features

The Norwegian Ruhr herb is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. The stem is stiff, simple and leafy. The leaves are three-veined, green, lanceolate, loosely silky and woolly and with dense gray tomentose hair on the underside. The central stem leaves are longer than the upper and basal ones. The heads stand in a leafy, squat ear. The lowest leaves of the inflorescence are as long as this one. The edge of the envelope scales is black-brown-skinned. The flowers are light brownish. The filamentous marginal flowers are multi-row.

The flowering period extends from July to September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 56.

Occurrence

The Norwegian Ruhr herb occurs from Eurosiberia to North America. The species grows in lime-poor, somewhat damp and shady locations, on silicate grasslands and silicate meadows at altitudes of 1000 to 2800 meters. It is not common. It occurs in societies of the associations Calamagrostion arundinaceae, Caricion ferrugineae or gappy Nardion. In the Allgäu Alps, it rises from 1300 meters to an altitude of 2300 meters.
