God Bless America is a charity - Compilation of Columbia Records in 2001. It was therefore approximately one month after the October 16, 2001 terrorist attacks on September 11 released. The proceeds went to the Twin Towers Fund. The album peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200 .

background

Shortly after the September 11th terrorist attacks, Celine Dion performed the song God Bless America on Telethon America: A Tribute to Heroes . The arrangement was made by David Foster . The day before, she recorded a studio version, which eventually became the title track of the compilation.

Much of the album is pre-released material, with both patriotic and civil rights songs featured on the album. Land of Hope and Dreams by Bruce Springsteen is exclusively represented in a live version from 2000 and John Mellencamp's Peaceful Wold in an acoustic version from 2001.

The selection of songs extends over several decades. The oldest song is Frank Sinatra's version of America the Beautiful from 1945.

The proceeds were used to support the Twin Tower Fund from New York City Mayor Rudolph Guiliani , who raised money to support members of the fire and police rescue workers who perished during the rescue work.

Reviews

Andrew Dansby wrote in Rolling Stone that it was no wonder that the compilation was selling so well because there was something for everyone on the sampler. On Allmusic you saw this similar: _ have the album a wide range of folk than rock / pop to country and gospel . This wide range would make it stand out from the mass of similar samplers published after the terrorist attacks.
