The lodge settlement Gokyo is the only larger settlement ( VDC Khumjung ) in the valley of the Ngozumpa glacier , the largest ice flow in Nepal , which is fed by the Cho Oyu massif ( 8188 m ).
It is located at an altitude of 4860 m directly on the third of the six Gokyo lakes. The village consists of several hostels and restaurants (lodges).
At the northern edge of the village rises the 5483 m high Gokyo Peak ( Gokyo Kang ), one of the most popular trekking peaks in the Khumbu . The lookout point on the pre-summit Gokyo Ri at an altitude of 5350 m offers a fantastic view of no less than four eight-thousanders ( Mount Everest , Lhotse , Makalu , Cho Oyu ) and the other six- and seven-thousanders of the Khumbu region.
