The golden fence post is a negative prize that is awarded annually by the non-profit association klische * esc eV for absurd gender marketing . It was awarded for the first time in 2017 and is critical of products and advertising messages that use sexist and / or discriminatory stereotypes for the purpose of promoting sales .

Procedure

A seven-member jury nominates five potential winners from all submissions . Criteria for the nomination are a gender-focused addressing of the target group , the assignment of stereotypical characteristics or clichéd behavior, the highlighting of gender differences, a hierarchical arrangement or a clear imbalance in the number of people depicted. The nominees will be written to prior to the award of the prize, asked for their comments and invited to receive the prize personally if necessary. The winner of the Golden Fence Post will be announced in the form of a public award ceremony with a cultural supporting program at the Hebbel am Ufer theater combine .

As an alternative to the golden fence post, a best-practice seal, the free play badge , was awarded for the first time in 2019 .
