Goldsmith was an English new wave of British heavy metal band from Barrow-in-Furness that was formed in 1981 and split up around 1982.

history

After Perry "Pez" Hodder left the band Bitches Sin , he decided towards the end of 1981 to found a new one under the name Goldsmith. In this he took over the vocals and the electric guitar, the line-up was supplemented by drummer Mike Henderson and bassist Glen Milligan. Together they recorded a first demo that contains the songs No Way Out , Everybody Needs a Little Love , Give Me Your Love and Evil Woman , with Henderson taking over the vocals for the latter. This made Neat Records aware of the group, so that the song Give Me Your Love on the sampler 60 Minutes Pluswas released in 1982. In addition, the inclusion on the sampler All Hell Let Loose was planned, but the song was deleted from the track list with three other songs. The demo caught the attention of several fanzines . The band was also occasionally played on Piccadilly Radio. For the second half of 1982 the release of a single on Neat Records was planned, but this did not take place. Instead, the band recorded the two songs Life Is Killing Me and Music Man in the Impulse Studios , now a four with the second guitarist Pete Adams . The band's own label Bedlam Records released the sound carrier with Life Is Killing Me as the A-side towards the end of 1982. The sound carrier was named the rock single of the week in Sounds magazine . For 1983 the band announced the release of an EP , including the songs Fly Away and Please Don't . In addition, there were long-term plans to release a debut album. However, this should never happen because the band broke up. Contrary to other statements, Alan Cockburn, who was active with Hodder at Bitches Sin, was never a member of Goldsmith. In 2004 Obscure NWOBHM Releases released the compilation Life Is Killing Me on CD , the record version was released in 2015 on High Roller Records .

style

According to Malc Macmillan in The NWOBHM Encyclopedia , the band plays melodic heavy metal in the style of Dragonfly, Geddes Ax and Tytan . In contrast to the demo, the single is a bit more upbeat and the singing has improved. Life Is Killing Me is Fugitive and Zenith style. On the B-side there is a very well-known NWoBHM riff that was later copied by Blackstar in the song Instrumental on the album Barbed Wire Soul . It is also similar to that in the song Warlord from Hollow Ground .
