Golem was a music group from Vienna that won Austria's largest music competition , the ORF Show-Chance , in 1971 .
history
The group consisted of Peter "Piet" Kutzer (vocals), the son of the Austrian painter and illustrator Friedrich Kutzer , who later founded the Kaikukas, Martin Wolfer (vocals, guitar), the son of Oberkirchenrat Jakob Wolfer , Horst "Flöti" Neubinger ( Guitar) and Karin Stranig (vocals), who was able to achieve third place in the Talente '69 , a young talent competition of the ORF as a solo artist in 1969 and achieved a respectable fifth place in the international competition (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).
The name was based on the Jewish legend of the golem , an artificial creature made of clay. This was created for a very specific purpose. This is how the group, founded by Peter Kutzerm Horst Neubinger and Martin Wolfer in a Heuriger in Sievering, understood itself : with their music they wanted to help people. The proceeds from her music should go to the Clara Fey Children's Home in Vienna. The original cast also included Sylvia Sylt, who left the group in 1970 and was replaced by Karin Stranig. In this line-up, the group won the KURIER young talent studio in the Volksgarten.
As a result, Golem could be seen in several broadcasts on ORF. Among other things, Golem appeared with the title The Time in the first spotlight program by Peter Rapp , which was broadcast in color.
In 1971 they won 1st place on the ORF show Show-Chance in 1971 with Your Time Is Over .
In 1974 the extended play Rote Sonne Golgotha followed under the musical direction of Gerhard Bronner . In the same year Golem was represented with a title on the LP Die Austro Pop Story compiled by Evamaria Kaiser .
Afterwards a long-playing record was to be produced together with Bronner. But the group fell out during production. So the song material was lost because Bronner destroyed the songs that had been produced. Gerhard Bronner later appeared as a soloist with the single Jonah sat in the whale . Golem could be heard in the background vocals and also appeared together with Bronner in the show window on ORF.
After Martin Wolfer left, the group split up for good.
