Golemo Malowo (also written Golemo Malovo , Bulgarian Големо Малово ) is a village in the Dragoman municipality , Sofia Oblast , in western Bulgaria .
The village is located north of the Sofia plain on the southern slopes of the Tschepan Mountains (a promontory of the Balkan Mountains ), about 50 km northwest of the Bulgarian capital Sofia . Nearby are the towns of Slivnitsa , Godetsch and Dragoman .
During the Serbian-Bulgarian War of 1885/86, the village was occupied by Serbian troops from the Danube Division, who set up their positions on the surrounding hills. In the decisive battle of Slivnitsa , Golemo Malowo and the surrounding area became a theater of war. On November 5th, Jul. / November 17, 1885 greg. the village was recaptured.
The collectivism of agriculture pursued by the Bulgarian communists and the state-imposed planned economy led to the emigration of the population, especially towards Sofia. In recent years, however, young families have been settling here again.
