The Golf de Roses ( Catalan ; Spanish Golfo de Rosas ; 'Gulf of Rosas') is located south of the Cap de Creus and forms the main part of the coast of the Comarca Alt Empordà ( Spanish: Alto Ampurdán ) in Catalonia , Spain . This is also where the town of Roses is located , which gave the Gulf its name. Another important city on the Gulf of Roses is L'Escala , which is on the opposite side of Roses on the southern edge of the Gulf.

The Gulf of Roses begins in the northeast at Punta Falconera, at the easternmost end of Cap de Creus , stretches across the Bay of Roses , past Empuriabrava - where the Muga river flows into the Mediterranean - Can Comes beach, as part of the natural park Aiguamolls de l'Empordà , the beach of Sant Pere Pescador - where the Fluvià river flows out - to the bay of Riells ( Cala de Riells ) and Punta Trencabraços , which is the southern end of its coastline.

After the Spanish Civil War general ordered Franco above the rocky coast verbunkerte gun batteries built to a possible invasion of the Allied military off the extensive sandy beaches in the Bay of Roses to meet.
