Gondwana is a Chilean reggae - band , which in 1987 by I-Locks Labbé in Santiago de Chile was founded. The singer Quique Neira , who joined the band in 1997 , contributed significantly to the band's success in Chile and abroad. The band's first three regular albums were released by Dr. Dread ( RAS Records ) produced and gave the band concert appearances in the USA and Jamaica .

Band history

Gondwana was founded in 1987 in Santiago de Chile, Chile. The band, named after the continent Gondwana , was founded in the years of Augusto Pinochet's tenure shortly before he was elected in 1990. The first few years were rather difficult for the band due to political censorship, especially since the group started out of known to the Rastafarian religion .

The group only became known with the arrival of their singer Quique Neira . In 1997 her self-titled debut album was released, which was followed by seven other studio albums and a live album. the debut album was awarded a platinum record in Chile with more than 45,000 units sold . As one of the first reggae bands in Chile, they helped found this movement there. The Jamaican music producer Dr. Dread from RAS Records, who produced the band from 1997.

2003 Quique Neira left the band again. Since then, the band has continued with changing singers. The band tours all over the world and, in addition to Chile, has also enjoyed success in the United States and Europe. In Chile, they sold nearly half a million albums and went platinum nine times.
