Gong Hyo-jin (born April 4, 1980 in Seoul ) is a South Korean actress .

Life

Gong Hyo-jin - Blue Dragon Award , South Korea 2013

Gong began her career in Memento Mori , the second part of the Whispering Corridors series. The film is considered one of the most important horror melodramas of the early Korean New Wave and is about a lesbian love affair. The young female cast of the film jointly received the Baeksang Arts Award for Best New Actress .

In the romantic comedy Love Fiction (2012) she plays the new friend of an author (played by Ha Jung-woo ), who gets rid of his writer's block through her. Her armpit hair, which he initially finds repulsive, but later takes up as a central theme in his novel and later also in a song, plays a large part in this. For her role, Gong received the popularity award at the Blue Dragon Awards , with the winner being decided via an online vote. In the same year, Gong also appeared in Ha Jung-woo's documentary 577 Project . In this, Ha goes 577 km from Seoul to Haenam together with Gong and 14 other friends . Acting colleagues and producers speak outside the mainstream about their problems in realizing projects.

In an interview with KBS , Gong said that she does not want to play in commercial blockbusters because they are too superficial for her. Rather, she is looking for a role that really suits her, away from the mainstream.

In 2013, Gong played in the Dramedy Boomerang Family alongside Park Hae-il , Yoon Je-moon and Yoon Yeo-jeong . In the film adaptation of Cheon Myung-kwan novel Aging Family , she plays the sister of two brothers. Gong felt relaxation through the constant cursing of her figure and enjoyed working with her fellow actors.

In 2018 she played the lead role in the thriller Door Lock , in which her role lives alone in an apartment that a serial killer sneaks into at night.
