The Blue Dragon Awards is the most famous film award in the South Korean film industry .

The prizes have been awarded by the Chosun Ilbo newspaper since 1963 until the award ceremony in 1973. It was launched again in 1990 by the sports daily Sports Chosun and has been held annually ever since.

The categories roughly correspond to those known from the Oscar awards, including best director , best leading actor, best supporting actor, best script .

However, there are also categories that are only based on the public's taste, namely the price for the greatest box office success and the popularity price for the most votes on the Internet .
