Sol Kyung-gu (born May 1, 1968 ) is a South Korean actor.

He studied theater studies at Hanyang University and then worked primarily at the theater, and from 1996 also in film. He had his first leading role in 1999 in the film Song-o .

In Korea he is known from films such as Public Enemy (2002), its sequel and above all the very successful Silmido (2003) by Kang Woo-seok and Gwangbokjeol teuksa (2002) by Kim Sang-jin .

He is internationally known for his roles in more demanding films such as Lee Chang-dong's Peppermint Candy (2000) and Oasis (2002). He received the Actor Award for Peppermint Candy at the Bratislava International Film Festival and the Golden Space Needle Award for Best Actor at the Seattle International Film Festival for Oasis .

Sol divorced in 2006 after 10 years of marriage and has been married to actress Song Yun-ah since 2009 .

In 2014 he played the lead role in the film My Dictator . In it he is chosen to play the North Korean dictator Kim Il-sung at a meeting with South Korean President Park Chung-hee . The meeting of the two Korean heads of state is only faked. Still, he has put himself into the role so much that he thinks he is really Kim Il-sung.
