Google Baby is an Israeli documentary film of director Zippi Brand Frank from 2009. It deals with surrogacy and egg donation in the context of globalization .
action
The gay Israeli Doron Mamet and his partner bought a baby for $ 140,000 from the US company Egg Donation . Many friends are also interested, but cannot afford the price. Mamet then founds the Tammuz company , which has fertilized egg cells from the United States delivered to Nayna Patel's fertilization clinic in Anand, India .
Indian surrogates are mostly poor and see surrogacy as a way of providing for their families. Often the goal is to buy a house or to have children.
background
One plotline that does not appear in the final film is the story of the baby Manjhi, who was born to a Japanese couple at Nayna Patel's clinic. However, during the pregnancy the couple separated and neither partner wanted to pick up the baby. The Indian authorities wanted to oblige the surrogate mother to adopt the child as her own. On the other hand, the surrogate mother filed a lawsuit with the help of the clinic. Eventually, the father's Japanese mother took the baby.
criticism
Many reviews emphasize the impartial and neutral presentation. Jette Kernion complains that the film would indulge in too many unimportant details and not give interesting facts. The presented conditions are predominantly rated as ambivalent - "innovative or disturbing".
