The Gossensaß Viaduct ( Italian Viadotto Colle Isarco ) is a motorway bridge on the Brenner motorway that crosses the Eisack River , the Brenner State Road and the Brenner Railway at Gossensaß ( Colle Isarco in Italian ) in the Wipptal in South Tyrol . The viaduct is considered to be the largest motorway bridge on the Autostrada A22 , the Italian part of the Brenner motorway, and is therefore sometimes referred to as the "small Europe bridge ".

It lies at an average height of 1182 m slm and has a slight slope. The height above the river is 110 m. It has 13 openings and consists of independent bridge structures for each direction of travel, which are only connected to one another at the carriageway slabs. The 1028 m long viaduct is 22.10 m wide, divided into two lanes and one hard shoulder in each direction.

The main bridge is a prestressed concrete bridge with a span of 163 m in the main opening and 91 m in the secondary openings. The two rectangular, single-cell hollow girders with variable overall height each protrude 59 m into the main opening; the 45 m wide space is closed by suspension brackets. The other six openings in the northern part and the four openings in the south have spans of 78 m; only in the two peripheral areas are the widths reduced to up to 45.7 m. They are also crossed by hanging beams between cantilevered pier heads.

The reinforced concrete - pillars are 21-87 m high A-shaped structures; only the short outermost pillars are simple discs.

The bridge was planned between 1968 and 1969 and built between 1969 and 1971 on behalf of Autostrada del Brennero SpA / Brennerautobahn AG. From the 1980s and increasingly in the 1990s, numerous repairs to the corrosion damage caused by road salt were carried out. In 2007 and 2008, external prestressing and continuous monitoring of the behavior of the structure and possible corrosion damage were installed.
