Gottfried Eckhardt
Gottfried Eckhardt (born March 9, 1865 in Düsseldorf ; † 1933 ) was a German painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Eckhardt, presumably the son of the Düsseldorf portrait and genre painter Carl Peter Eckhardt , attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1879 to 1894 . There he was a student of Peter Janssen the Elder , Wilhelm Sohn , Hugo Crola and Heinrich Lauenstein . He served the latter for a while as a teaching assistant. Study trips took him to Italy , Switzerland , Munich and Belgium . Eckhardt worked in Düsseldorf , where he was a member of the Malkasten artists' association .
The main areas of his work were history and church painting . He also emerged as a portrait painter . He created a winged altar for the imperial abbey of Echternach .
