Gottfried Fritsch

Gottfried Fritsch (* around 1706 in Silesia ; † October 6, 1750 in Tobitschau ) was an Austrian sculptor of Silesian origin.
Fritsch completed an apprenticeship in the studio of the sculptor Andreas Zonner in Olomouc . With his support he was later able to continue his education at the art academy in Vienna . Raphael Donner was probably one of his teachers there.
He returned from Vienna to his homeland during the politically difficult times ( First Silesian War ) and worked almost exclusively for various parishes. In 1741 the Paulaner Order brought him back to Vienna to decorate their church with a suitable main altar.
His angel figure for the cemetery in Střílky , on the foothills of the Mars Mountains ( Diocese of Olomouc ) was one of the most important by Fritsch; in the same cemetery he also created a crypt chapel.
