politics

Gittfried Hirz is one of the co-founders of the Green Party in Austria. He was one of the founders of the Alternative List Austria in Graz in 1981 and subsequently did development work for the ALÖ in Upper Austria. From 1985 he was a member of the "Executive Committee" of the Green Alternative Upper Austria and subsequently State Executive Committee member until December 1990. For the state elections in Upper Austria in 1991 and 1997 worked Hirz as a program coordinator, he was also between 1992 and 2004 national board member of the Greens Bildungswerkstatt Upper Austria. In 1997, Hirz was elected managing director of the Upper Austrian Greens, and in 1998 as state spokesman. Hirz held his position as state spokesman until 2002, and he worked as managing director until 2004. Between 2000 and 2002 he was also a member of the national board of the Greens. Within the party, Hirz is currently still a member of the state board of the Greens Upper Austria (since 1998).

On October 23, 2003, Gottfried Hirz was elected to the Upper Austrian state parliament and his party elected deputy chairman of the club. He has been a member of the coordination committee between the ÖVP and the Greens since 2003. Since 2003 Hirz has also been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Federal Education Academy in Linz and the Linz Professional Education Academy. From 2003 to 2005 he was a member of the supervisory board of NAVEG and has been a member of the supervisory board of OÖ Verkehrsholding GesmbH since 2005. On February 1, 2007 he was elected club chairman of the Greens in the state parliament.

On May 9, 2009, Hirz gave a speech in the Upper Austrian state parliament , in which he argued for the establishment of a blocking infrastructure to combat child pornography on the Internet based on the German model. Together with the coalition party ÖVP and all other parties represented in the state parliament ( SPÖ and FPÖ ), a resolution was passed to the federal government to set up access blocks on the Internet, which should be able to filter documented abuse of children and young people.

Despite internal party disputes and a clear rejection of the planned measures by the Greens at federal level, there was no official clarification on the part of Gottfried Hirz or the Upper Austrian Greens. In general, the Greens are in favor of data protection and fundamental rights. In the meantime, the German Bundestag passed the controversial law with the votes of the governing coalition.

Awards

In October 2009, Hirz, together with the members of the Green Party, Ulrike Schwarz and Maria Wageneder, was awarded the Austrian Big Brother Award for calling for legal internet blocks for child pornographic web content.

Hirz lives in a community and has one child. He has lived in the Vöcklabruck district since 1979.
