Gottfried Kleiner

Gottfried Kleiner (born November 28, 1691 in Rudelsdorf, later Rudelstadt , Duchy of Schweidnitz , † February 1, 1767 in Freiburg , Silesia ) was a German Protestant clergyman and hymn poet .

Life

Kleiner was born the son of a clergyman . After studying Protestant theology at the University of Leipzig , he worked as a private tutor . In 1722 he went to Seifersdorf as pastor , and in 1742 he moved to Freiburg in Silesia. There he died at the age of 75.

In his day, Kleiner was considered an able preacher ; his sermons were very popular. He published some of his sermons, the collection of sermons had at least 30 editions.

He also wrote 130 sacred songs, which he published in two compilations. Many of the songs were still to be found in community hymn books in the 19th century.
