Gottfried Pilz

Gottfried Pilz (* 1944 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian stage and costume designer and opera director .

Life

As a set designer at the Bielefeld Theater, Pilz played a key role in many world premieres and excavations during the era of John Dew (1983 to 1991). Pilz also worked with Dew in Krefeld and Berlin.

He also worked internationally at many opera houses and theaters, and designed equipment for the Augsburg Theater , the Bavarian State Opera , the Munich Biennale , the Leipzig Opera , the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Vienna State Opera . He worked with Gustav Rudolf Sellner , Boleslav Barlog , Eike Gramss , Stefan Herheim , Kurt Horres , Thomas Langhoff , Nikolaus Lehnhoff , Christine Mielitz , George Tabori and Olivier Tambosi , among others . He also worked with Götz Friedrich and Günter Krämer in Cologne , Hamburg , Paris , Tel Aviv and Los Angeles .

Pilz has also worked as a director since 1993, for example at Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame at the Los Angeles Opera or at the German premiere of Messiaen's mammoth work Saint François d'Assise in Leipzig with his own equipment and with Jiri Kout as musical director.

In 1999, Pilz staged the world premiere of Babette Koblenz 's research at the Munich Biennale , which was also recorded on television. Further engagements followed, including a. in Madrid, at the Salzburg Festival and at the New York Metropolitan Opera .
