Eike Gramss

Eike Gramss (* 2. January 1942 in Twistringen , † 20 July 2015 in Salzburg ) was a German opera - and theater - director and theater director .

Life

After attending grammar school in Bremen , Gramss first studied acting at the State University for Music and Theater Hamburg . His first engagement as an actor was in Verden ( Landesbühne Niedersachsen-Mitte ). This was followed by directorial activities in Wilhelmshaven , Celle and Braunschweig . Then he was senior director of the drama division in Heidelberg , Augsburg and Darmstadt .

From 1985 to 1991 Gramss was general manager in Krefeld / Mönchengladbach . From 1991 to 2007 he was director at the Stadttheater Bern .

He was responsible for numerous theater productions from Aristophanes to Shakespeare to Botho Strauss and for directing work in Bonn, Graz and Basel, among others. His most important opera directors were in Krefeld / Mönchengladbach, Leipzig, Hanover, Karlsruhe, Montpellier, Nantes, Dublin, at the Berlin State Opera , at the English National Opera in London, at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf / Duisburg, at the Semperoper in Dresden , at the Maggio Musicale in Florence , at the Megaron in Athens, at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and at the Bavarian State Opera . He has worked with the following conductors, among others: Yakov Kreizberg , Angelo Cavallaro , Reinhard Schwarz , Christof Prick , Jiří Kout , Julius Rudel , Paul Daniel , Fabio Luisi , Myung-Whun Chung , Zubin Mehta .

He worked as a university professor at the Mozarteum Salzburg.
