Christof Prick
Christof Prick (born October 23, 1946 in Hamburg ) is a German conductor and university professor .
Life
Prick was born as the son of the concertmaster of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra . He studied at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater with Wilhelm Brückner-Rüggeberg .
He worked at the following places of activity:
- 1966–1970: Harvestehude Student Orchestra Hamburg (founded by him), conductor and honorary conductor
- 1974–1977: Saarland State Orchestra Saarbrücken , general music director
- 1977–1985: Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe , general music director
- 1978–1990: Conducted almost 100 repertoire performances in the Vienna State Opera
- 1986–1990: Deutsche Oper Berlin , Staatskapellmeister
- 1989–1995: Federal Youth Orchestra , permanent conductor
- 1992–1995: Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Music Director
- 1993–1996: Lower Saxony State Orchestra and State Opera Hanover , General Music Director
- 2001–2010: Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Music Director
- 2006–2011: State Theater Nuremberg , General Music Director
- 2016–2017: Beethoven Orchester Bonn , chief conductor.
He has also conducted as a guest at the Semperoper Dresden , the Metropolitan Opera New York , the Lyric Opera Chicago and the San Francisco Opera .
In addition to conducting, from 1999 to 2013 he held a professorship for conducting at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .
Around 1988 his recordings include Franz Schmidt's seldom performed opera Notre Dame .
Prick and his wife Ulrike, an actress, live in Germany. In the American-English-speaking area he appears under the name Christof Perick .
On October 5, 2017, while conducting a performance of the Freischütz at the Hamburg State Opera , Prick suffered an unspecified medical emergency during the break; the performance was then canceled.
