Kurt Horres

Kurt Horres (born November 28, 1932 in Düsseldorf ) is a German director , theater director and professor at the Folkwang School in Essen .

Career

Horres was born in Düsseldorf in 1932 and studied German , theater studies and art history in Cologne . He then attended the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf .

His artistic work began as an assistant director at the Komische Oper Berlin . Further directing activities led him to the operas in Wuppertal , Cologne and Bonn . Until 1964 he was senior director of the Lübeck Theaters, then he moved to the Wuppertaler Theaters as opera director , where he worked for eleven years. In 1976 he was appointed director of the Darmstadt State Theater and moved from there to the Hamburg State Opera . From 1986 to 1996 he was general manager of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein . Kurt Horres has worked as a freelance director since the 1996/97 season and taught directing at the Folkwang Hochschule .

He has staged operas by Boris Blacher , Luigi Dallapiccola , Paul Dessau , Werner Egk , Gottfried von Eine , Wolfgang Fortner , Hans Werner Henze , Paul Hindemith , Giselher Klebe , Darius Milhaud , Krzysztof Penderecki , Aribert Reimann and Udo Zimmermann , in part as world premieres . But Wagner'sThe Ring of the Nibelung ” was also one of the highly acclaimed performances.

His son ( Gregor Horres ) and one of his daughters ( Bernarda Horres ) are also theater directors.
