Gottfried Swoboda

Gottfried Swoboda (born September 23, 1943 in Zittau ; † October 27, 2001 in Dresden ) was a German Catholic theologian , publicist and author . He was editor-in-chief of the church newspaper Day of the Lord (1987-1995).

Life

Gottfried Swoboda spent his childhood and youth in Ostritz . He learned the profession of electrician and worked in this profession for several years. After studying in Erfurt and Neuzelle , Swoboda was ordained a priest on April 23, 1977 in Dresden . He began as a chaplain at the parish of St. Josef in what was then Karl-Marx-Stadt , from 1981 he was chaplain in Riesa . In 1983 he was appointed vicar at the cathedral and child chaplain of the Dresden-Meißen diocese .

In 1986 he was released by the bishop to work on the church newspaper Day of the Lord and was its editor-in-chief from 1987-1995 . At the same time he took over pastoral care in the St. George's community in the Gohlis district of Leipzig . In 1995 he was parish administrator in Wurzen for several months . In the same year Swoboda was appointed pastor of the parish Herz Jesu in Dresden-Johannstadt , where he worked until his death.

His primary saying “Put away the old man. Put on Christ! Represent Christ! Be Christ! ”(From Pope John XXIII ) ?? was the program of his priestly activity for Svoboda.
