Gottfried von Neifen was a German-speaking minstrel who was born near Urach and is mentioned in documents from the period from 1230 to around 1255. Gottfried von Neifen came from the Swabian noble family of the Lords of Neuffen . His ancestral seat was Hohenneuffen Castle . He belonged to Heinrich's (VII.) Circle and his poetry was influenced by Walther von der Vogelweide and Neidhart von Reuental . His works, which show a clear distance from the high phase of minstrel, in which the unrewarded service to the mistress was praised, captivate with all irony through linguistic mastery. Melodies from his pen have not survived.
