Gotthard Fuchs (born May 8, 1938 in Halle ) is a German Catholic theologian , specialist in theology of spirituality and mysticism , adult educator and publicist .

Life

After studying philosophy, theology and education, Gotthard Fuchs was ordained a priest in Paderborn in 1963 . From 1968 to 1972 and from 1977 to 1982 he held theological teaching positions at the universities in Münster and Bamberg. In 1983, Bishop Franz Kamphaus appointed him director of the Catholic Academy Rabanus Maurus in the dioceses of Limburg, Mainz and Fulda. In 1989 the Department of Catholic Theology at the University of Frankfurt am Main awarded him an honorary doctorate for his services in promoting theological science in the conversation between Christian faith and modern culture. After the end of his work as director of the academy, Gotthard Fuchs was since 1998 the senior professor of the department for church culture and science in the diocese of Limburg.

In addition, Gotthard Fuchs was (since 1996) honorary pastor at Rothenfels Castle and lecturer in the context of the theological academic year in Jerusalem . For many years he has published a column on the everyday relevance of spirituality and mysticism in the magazine Christ in der Gegenwart .

Gotthard Fuchs lives in Wiesbaden today.
