Life

Gottlieb Joseph Freiherr Manteuffel came from the noble family Manteuffel from the Pomerania region . He was the eldest son of Joseph Marie Clemens Kaspar Melchior Balthasar Baron Manteuffel († 1750 at Schloss Hart in Edling ), electoral Bavarian lieutenant colonel of cavalry and kurbayerischer eunuch, and Maria Anna Josepha Francisca Countess Cessanne et Colle . Shortly after his birth, he and his parents were accepted into the secular brotherhood of Benedictines in the nearby Attel Abbey in 1737 . When his father died in 1750, he was only 14 years old and was still a page with Elector Maximilian Joseph of Bavaria . Likewise, he inherited Haar Castle in what is now Edling, which he owned until 1783. Ten years later he was a lieutenant in the General Graf Holstein Regiment , where he received three campaigns with distinction and advancement during the Seven Years' War . In 1783 he sold Hart Castle and from then on lived at Brandstätt Castle, which he also owned until 1822. In 1790 he was appointed Lieutenant Colonel a. D. Bavarian Chamberlain. In the same year (August 25) he was raised to the hereditary status of imperial count as Count von Manteuffel on Proitz ( Broitz / Hinterpommern ) by Elector Karl Theodor of the Palatinate and Bavaria - during his time as Imperial Vicar . In 1810 his family was entered in the Bavarian aristocratic registers. According to the count's diploma, he carries the alliance coat of arms from the Manteuffel coat of arms and the coat of arms of the Barons Fedrigazzi.
