Gottlieb William Leitner (born October 14, 1840 in Pest , Austrian Empire ; died March 22, 1899 in Bonn ) was an orientalist .

Life

Gottlieb William Leitner was the son of a doctor, his nephew was the British politician Leopold Stennett Amery .

Leitner received his training in Constantinople , in what was then Brussa , in Malta and at King's College London . He became a teacher of Arabic and Turkish there in 1859 and a few years later went to Lahore , India, where he made a living by founding numerous teaching institutions (including the Punjab University College ), literary societies and public libraries.
