Gottlob Michael Wentzel (born April 7, 1792 in Großschönau , † August 4, 1866 in Dresden ) was a German still life and landscape painter .

Life

Still life

Wentzel initially worked as a dancer and dance master at the Leipzig City Theater and painted flowers in opaque colors before studying with Cajetan Toscani and Ferdinand Hartmann at the Dresden Art Academy . He continued his studies in Vienna in 1812 and Munich in 1823. From 1825 he worked in Leipzig . He spent the period from 1828 to 1831 in Italy . In 1835 he became a drawing teacher at the Royal Building Trade School in Dresden and at the Technical College in Dresden , and from 1862–1866 as a professor of drawing and painting.

Wentzel mainly painted landscapes as well as pictures of flowers, animals and fruits.
