Christian Gottlob Heinrich Theuerkauf (born January 21, 1833 in Kassel ; † March 5, 1911 there ) was a German painter and lithographer .

Life

Theuerkauf, who learned the art of lithography using chalk technique at a young age , also attended the Kassel Art Academy as part of his artistic training . From 1848 he came out with his own work. In 1851 he went to Berlin , where he lithographed landscapes and architectural pictures and drew them for woodcut . Theuerkauf produced numerous illustrations for high-circulation publications of his time, including the Illustrirte Zeitung , Die Gartenlaube and Über Land und Meer . In addition, his works have also appeared in books. He created views of numerous German and European cities and buildings. From 1875 he also turned to watercolor painting .

In 1890 , Theuerkauf completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Berlin in Charlottenburg , where he initially worked as a private lecturer in watercolors as well as architecture and landscape painting , and was appointed professor in 1895. Until 1904 he taught landscape painting at the university.

Theuerkauf spent his twilight years in his hometown Kassel, where he died in 1911. In 1898 he published the autobiographical dialect volume Uß den Kännerjohren , written in the North Hessian dialect . Memories of an old Kasselan in Kassel dialect . There were also other dialectic writings from him, Mangel and Iwwerfluss and Vun unse alen Bergergarde .
