Since January 1st, 1974, Gröningen has been part of the community of Satteldorf in the Schwäbisch Hall district in Baden-Württemberg .

The districts of Bölgental, Bronnholzheim, Helmshofen, Schleehardshof, Triftshausen, Hammerschmiede and Kernmühle belong to Gröningen. Gröningen first appeared in a document in the 8th century; it is probably the oldest of the districts of the entire community of Satteldorf. Presumably it was founded by the Alemanni . The St. Kilian Church in Gröningen is one of the oldest churches in the area.

The Gröningen Castle , a four-story Renaissance building , was built between 1611 and 1627 by Hans Philipp von Crailsheim and his wife Margarethe von Berlichingen , but remained mostly uninhabited until it was inherited by the von Seckendorff family at the end of the 18th century . These noble families were members of the Franconian knight circle . Among these there was a court in Gröningen with a coachman, valet, maid, gardener and hunter. In 1865 the castle was sold to a merchant and landlord, who set up a grocer with an inn in it in 1866. Despite multiple changes of ownership, it has basically remained in this way to this day, and there is still a restaurant with a beer garden and business premises in the castle. The castle itself cannot be visited as it is partially inhabited.

Hammer forge

The hammer forge in Gronachtal is an example of the transition from manual to industrial manufacture of forged products. It was built in 1804 and then expanded several times. After thorough restoration, it was opened to the public in 1982 as a technical cultural monument. Since then, an oil mill with steam engine operation has also been built on the site.

More Attractions

Further sights are the approximately 20 m high and 10 m long Anhäuser Wall , the only remnant of the former Anhausen monastery , and the old brewery building with a brewery inn in the center of Gröningen. In the Ellrichshausen district there is a privately operated vintage car museum with passenger cars, motorcycles and scooters from the 1950s.
