As an open platform for LGBTIQ politics, the Greens, on the other hand, are a sub-organization of the Austrian party The Greens - The Green Alternative and are organized differently in the federal states .

founding

The Greens the other way around were set up on March 31, 1996 at the request of the newly elected Federal Managing Director Ulrike Lunacek and Gernot Wartners, delegate from Upper Austria , by the Federal Congress of the Greens in Linz as a federal working group of the federal party. After the influx of activists but also the work of the group was limited to Vienna and as a reaction to the disappointing result of the National Council election in 1999, a separate regional group was founded in Upper Austria, which was recognized by the regional assembly in Linz in June 2000 as a sub-organization of the Upper Austrian regional party . As a result, regional groups were formed in Styria , Tyrol , Salzburg , Carinthia and, in 2006, in Lower Austria , now also in Vorarlberg . There is still no regional group in Burgenland .

structure

In individual countries such as Upper Austria and Vienna, the Greens, on the other hand, are an official sub-organization (sometimes even as an independent association with its own legal personality) of the respective state party with a seat and vote in the party committees. In other countries, on the other hand, there are only loose associations without a structure and anchoring in the statutes in the respective state party (e.g. in Lower Austria). At the federal level, Greens, the other way round, still only exist as a federal working group. Nevertheless, the activists from all federal states meet twice a year for a federal retreat where strategic projects are coordinated and activities are discussed. Ulrike Lunacek was the first openly lesbian member of the National Council to be an unofficial federal spokesperson.

In spring 2013, two spokesmen were elected for the first time at the federal level. Since then, Federal Councilor Marco Schreuder has acted as federal spokesperson and Graz city councilor Lisa Rücker as federal spokesperson . As successors for Schreuder, Jennifer Kickert and Peter Kraus were elected as spokespersons in the Vienna sub-organization, and at the federal level, Federal Councilor Ewa Dziedzic and Thomas Lechleitner, state spokesman from Tyrol.

In addition to Vienna, the Greens are represented in the federal states of Carinthia, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg.

Political concerns

The Greens, on the other hand, advocate equality between lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender and intersex people (LGBTIQ for short) in Austria on the basis of the basic program of the Greens and the Greens basic values . The model of a civil pact (Zip) worked out by the Greens the other way round was introduced by the Greens to the National Council in 2005, as was a motion to open marriage. In addition, it is the task of the Greens, the other way round, to carry the concerns of the LGBTIQ communities into all levels of political decision-making and to make them visible there. Last but not least, this becomes visible through the filling of political mandates at all levels.
