The municipal association Gran Tierra de los Lípez ( Bolivian : Mancomunidad de la Gran Tierra de los Lípez) comprises 8 districts ( Municipios ) in the southwestern part of Bolivia in the Potosí Department .

Basics of the local authority association

There are various attractive destinations for national and international tourism on the territory of the districts involved, such as the Salar de Uyuni salt lake , the Laguna Colorada , Laguna Verde and Laguna Blanca lakes , and the Sol de Mañana geysers . The local authority association was founded on December 7, 2003.

The aim of the municipal association is to achieve greater financial sustainability for the region, improved communication structures and a more effective participation of the individual districts in the decision-making structures through cooperation and the ability of the institutions involved to compromise.

Historical assignment

The municipal association covers practically the entire region that was inhabited by the Lipe people in pre-colonial times . The "Lipe" (or "Llipi" or "Lípez") were an ethnic group with a common cultural identity and language. Their settlement area included the "Salar de Thunupa" (Salar de Uyuni), the region of the Río Grande de Lípez and parts of the Cordillera Occidental . Their settlement period can be dated between the years 1200 and 1463 AD.

Enrique Baldivieso Province - 2,254 km²

Sur Lípez Province - 22,355 km²

Daniel Campos Province - 12,106 km²
