The municipality of San Agustín is a district in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of San Agustín is the only municipality in the province of Enrique Baldivieso . It lies between 21 ° 03 'and 21 ° 51' south latitude and between 67 ° 07 'and 67 ° 48' west longitude . In the east, north, west and south it is almost completely surrounded by the province of Nor Lípez , only in the south-east it borders on the province of Sur Lípez for a distance of about 20 kilometers . The municipality extends over a total of about 120 kilometers from northwest to southeast and has a mean width of 35 kilometers. The capital of the municipality is San Agustín with 639 inhabitants ( 2012 census ).

The municipality of San Agustín is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera de Lípez in the southeast. The climate in this region in the southwest of the country is arid , only from January to March there is significant rainfall between 10 and 30 mm per month (see climate diagram Avaroa), in the remaining nine months there is only sporadic rainfall.
