Grandaços is a village in southern Portugal , in the Baixo Alentejo region . The village has about 200 inhabitants and belongs to the municipality ( freguesia ) and district ( concelho ) of Ourique in the district of Beja .

Grandaços is located between the small town of Castro Verde to the east and Ourique to the west .

economy

Grandaços became famous in 2017 when the Portuguese company Prosolia installed the Centro Solar Fotovoltaica Ourikal solar system there with an output of 46 MW . The system involved an investment of around 35 million euros and is the first large-scale solar system in Europe to be financed without public subsidies.

Attractions

Some sacred buildings can be seen in the village, especially the village church and a listed prayer niche at the entrance to the village.

traffic

Grandaços is on the IP2 (here also European route 802 ), about one and a half kilometers west of the Autoestrada A2 (exit no. 12, Castro Verde).

The nearest railway access is in Garvão , about 20 km to the west , where the Linha do Sul railway passes. Until the section was closed in 2012, the train station in Ourique, located about 10 km to the north, was also a stop on the Linha do Alentejo railway line .
